Bob Rush Collection

Bob Rush was a prominent Salida attorney and had a large collection of framed photographs that adorned his office. He graciously donated his collection to the Salida Library, seen below. His father, William Rush, was a Denver & Rio Grande railroad engineer, and author of a local history, Memories of Leadville.

Turret residents gathered in the shade of Alpine Park in Salida on July 4, 1903 for a community picture. Colorado Sate Senator Thomas Ehrhart of Nathrop was holding the American flag at the left. Marcus Ellis was the boy with the white collar in the front row, and behind him was George Williamson. The man with the white tie in the front row was Lewis Briggs. His son (in white shirt) and William Bryan Hall were next to him. Directly behind them was William Bassham. Elmer Briggs was at the right. In a white blouse and black hat (to the right of center) was Mathilda Hall. Bill Bartlett was leaning against the tree (at the left), and Arthur Williamson was on the other side. Fourth from left was Ora Williamson, and sixth from left was George Mendenhall. The man with the star in the center of the back row was Salida’s nigh marshal Lawrence Jesse Taliaferro, and Christine Bassham was at his left. Elsie Bassham held her daughter, Tillie. Pete Schlosser was standing beside her, and the tall man was Al Joerger. Notice the multisided bandstand for summer concerts in the background.
